Today we are headed to Carlsbad Caverns....this is so amazing and I hope that pictures give you a feel for the immensity of this cave system. As you drive up it is so unpresupposing:
But what lies beneath is breathtaking....we entered the cavern to walk down a switchback ramp that took us 750 feet below the surface.
Once inside the sights were amazing...Carlsbad Caverns is the most famous and is fully developed with electric lights, paved trails, and elevators. This is what we saw....
Hall of the Giants....looks like the 3 wise men to me....these are huge piles of years of drippings.
Lion's tail
Whales mouth....and many many more amazing drippings. After 2.5 miles and about 3 hours we finally headed towards the elevators that would zoom us back up to the surface. Carlsbad Caverns is a must see for anyone. So amazing.
Look! A little "city" at 750 feet below the surface where there is an elevator, restrooms, snack bar and of course a gift shop. All but the elevator were not open due to COVID. In one of the far off caverns where humans do not go there live a multitude of bats that come out at night for a fantastic show at dusk. These bats have migrated for the winter so we were not treated to this event.
